b'In MemoriamWe know you join CCBA in sharing condolences. August 3, 1924March 14, 2024James Jim Richard Tyler, 99, of Atlantic, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Jim was born in Iowa City, on August 3, 1924, and adopted by Harry and Lois Tyler. After graduating from Villisca High School in 1942, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on Dec. 11, 1942, and served until his discharge on Nov. 28, 1945. He was a proud military veteran of the 15th Air Force, 14th Fighter Group, and 48th Fighter Squadron and served as a P-38 Fighter pilot. In 1946, Jim entered Simpson College in Indianola (IA) and graduated in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. On June 1, 1947, Jim married Dorothy Dottie Henderickson; together, they had five children: Amy, Jayne, Lu Ann, Kirk, and Sue. In 1949, they moved to Atlantic that same year to work for the family business, Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Jim was very active in growing the company his grandfather started in 1909, and his passion for the business was infectious. Renowned within his own Bottling territory, he was equally popular and respected by his fellow Bottlers. Jim served on numerous state and national industry boards, serving the industry with distinction. He also served on the Iowa State Boardof Regents.Jim enjoyed traveling in his motor coach, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, and participating in many social activities with family and friends. In later years, he became an elder statesman of The Coca-Cola Bottler Associations Mainstream Bottler meeting and is fondly remembered by many for driving his motor coach from Atlantic, IA to the annual Mainstream Meetingin Palm Springs, CA.Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and daughter, Amy Jo Deardorff.He is survived by daughters Jayne Tyler,Lu Ann (Bob) Roby, Sue (David) Rawlins, and son Kirk (Janel); son-in-law John Deardorff; 10 grand-children and 10 great-grandchildren. Another discussion followed, led by Dennis Padgett (CCCI) and Erin Black (CCBF), considering aspects of automation in the warehouse and the use of automated and laser-guided vehicles.Day Two concluded with a presentation and discussion on training and development planning led by Gordon Mandt (Odom) and Charles Norton (CCBA.) Gordon shared his views and his learnings as he discussed training at Odom and across our Bottling System. His presentation led to a productive dialogue on sharing opportunities to optimize training planning and content development. Charles Norton closed the session, addressed any necessary follow-ups and thanked attendees for their participation.The annual Loss Control Forum enables members to share and learn about new best practices currently being implemented across the Coca-Cola Bottling System and beyond.
